synagogues celebrate mda's 80th year
|
 |
Over June 18th and19th, most congregations in Sydney and Melbourne took
part in Magen David Adom's 80th anniversary Shabbat, showcasing our organisation's
vital lifesaving work.
Magen David Adom was founded by volunteers in June 1930 in Tel Aviv with the use of a
single ambulance and operating from one room. Today, it has around 900 life saving
vehicles and 120 medical emergency stations.
Speaking from the pulpit, Rabbis referred to the wide range of services MDA provides
to Israelis regardless of their race, religion or creed.
Congregants everywhere were urged to lend their support to Magen David Adom and its
thousands of volunteers, whose own safety is often in danger whilst saving the lives
of others.

seniors show interest in mda
|
 |
The Seniors Friendship Club, which regularly meets at the B'nai B'rith
Kadimah Gardens at Wahroonga, invited Magen David Adom to give a
presentation regarding its life-saving work in Israel and around the world.
On May 27th, Tamara Lowbeer spoke to a packed hall about MDA's activities
and screened our very graphic DVD featuring four heart-wrenching stories of
MDA's everyday heroes. At the end of the presentation, the group made a
generous donation towards its work.

mda movie night a sell-out!
|
 |
MDA NSW's annual movie night, on Sunday 23rd May 2010, was a sell-out!
The pre-release screening of Ben Stiller's new movie, "Greenberg", at Event Cinemas in Bondi Junction
attracted an audience of all ages. Our patrons were given a surprise bag of sweets and random prizes were
awarded.
Our thanks go to our sponsors and donors: Tint a car, Krinskys, WAG Distributors, Kellys Steak House,
Dashing Digital, Jeff and Helen Einstein and to all our patrons who ensured a successful fundraising
event for Magen David Adom.

annual general meeting
|
 |
Addressing the NSW Friends of Magen David Adom AGM on April 27th 2010,
President Morris Eskin reported that, despite the global financial
crisis, donations had been maintained thanks to the loyalty of donors for
which we are all very grateful.
The President
was pleased to see young people taking on the challenge of carrying on MDA's work
in Australia. Much of this success he credited to the dynamism of Gail Eliovson,
who has stepped down from the Committee to start a family.
Two newcomers will be involved in this area - Irene Kotov and Menny Rapoport, who
will further develop and extend YMDA programs.
Life membership was bestowed on Eli Tal for being "an inspirational driving force on
the MDA Committee". Eli is only the second person n MDA NSW's 65-year history to receive
this honour. The other is George Keen.
Committee: (L-R): Eli Tal, Morris Eskin, Paul Horowitz,
Linda Stein, Allen Chafkin, Menny Rapoport, Allan Bermeister.
