Simon 1911–1989 | Hanni 1923–2005
Simon and Hanni Beitscher dedicated their lives to building both a successful future in Australia and a strong connection to Israel.
Hanni was born in Magdeburg, Germany in 1923 and fled with her family to Sydney in 1939 after Kristallnacht. Simon, born in Tarnow, Poland in 1911, had lived in Germany and Spain before migrating to Australia in 1936. A visionary entrepreneur, Simon founded the Daisy Pen Company and The Pen Shop in Sydney.
The couple married in 1944 and worked side by side in business and life. Though they had no children, Simon and Hanni poured their love and energy into the Jewish community and the State of Israel, visiting often and even making Aliyah in the 1970s.
They will be remembered for their entrepreneurial spirit, unshakable devotion to Israel, and shared generosity.
In a remarkable act of legacy, their bequest to Magen David Adom funded the construction of the Yokneam Medical Emergency Station in northern Israel. This station now serves as a beacon of hope, ensuring lives are saved in their name each and every day.
